DISCOVER ARAKIS

If you're looking for a trip that has and makes sense, that's useful and inspiring, that contributes to your well-being, that gives you answers but also questions and challenges you, that has healing virtues, that cares about its impact on the environment... then welcome to the atypical world of Arakis Travel, where the destination that matters above all is yourself.

Here's a video to give you an overview of Arakis Travel's originality... before you read on (subtitles available in English)

What we believe in

We believe in the virtues of travel, the kind that resonates with the noble sense of adventure, that allows us to discover and elevate ourselves through contact with singular cultures or transcendent landscapes.

Our mission is to provide the favorable conditions (the right destination for the right purpose, the guide to provide the impetus) for an awakening, the possibility of a genuine change of perception. It’s a way of looking after our relationships with others, with our environment and above all with ourselves, in a relaxed, caring environment.

What makes us different?

  • Our trips are about more than just entertainment,
  • We spend a great deal of time designing these trips to meet its common thread,
  • Our guides are more than just classical academic guides,
  • The purpose of the trip and the human encounters are more important than the destination country,
  • Our commercial relationship must go beyond the simple consumption of travel,
  • We attach importance to the regenerative nature of travel,
  • We are aware of the impacts generated.

What we commit to and what we ask in return from our travellers

As an agency, we are committed to respecting the principles of socially, environmentally and economically responsible tourism. Wherever possible, we choose local partners who are just as committed. We aim to choose means of transport that are conscious of their impact, and to favour a slower pace of travel, which allows for greater immersion.

Each trip contributes to a fund intended to provide additional financing for a social and/or environmental project, which we have pre-selected for its virtues and seriousness.

As for the traveler, we ask him or her not to adopt the behavior of an impulsive consumer, but rather to make a choice and then act conscientiously, as we do not offer “packaged tourism” but rather experiences designed to rekindle the sense of adventure, involving, for example, services that are not fully described to preserve the necessary surprise. In the field, we also aim to encourage open-mindedness and genuine discovery. We will provide each traveler with a Guide to Good Practice, designed to inform them of what we consider to be responsible behavior, with no lessons to be given, but under the sign of benevolence.

Consult our Code of Ethics.

Our commitment to you

Each trip is designed with a common thread, to meet an overall objective (which isn’t just sunbathing on beautiful beaches ;-). So it’s a succession of selected activities and experiences serving a precise purpose.

Quality of service, reduced negative impact, fair trade and innovation are also part of the foundations of these trips and underpin the creation of these very special journeys.

Our commitment to you is to do our utmost to provide you with the most favorable conditions for achieving the objective set for the chosen trip, and to put you back in control of this adventure.

découvrir les écovillages

Where does it all come from?

Arakis echoes the mythical, sand-covered planet imagined by Frank Herbert in Dune, where the protagonist seeks answers about his identity and purpose. William’s journey is a complex one, in which leaving his comfort zone has been a constant.

Confronting other cultures or trying out new professions has enriched his vision of the world, and made him realize that there are many of them. As he searched and searched, he came across a few pearls, and now seeks to share these singular experiences, so that travel can once again find its true raison d’être.

He is the author of a fairly exhaustive book in French on the creation of living communities: La voie des écovillages (« The path of ecovillages »). He suggests you discover some of them, considering them as laboratories, on a human scale, where multiple solutions are created for the challenges awaiting society.

Our guides

The person who accompanies a trip clearly influences the traveler’s perception of the destination, the cultures and, above all, the overall travel experience. That’s why we team up with people who combine many qualities to make this adventure beneficial and successful.
